I opened my front door to find a brown cardboard box hand-addressed to me with sharpie marker. Hm. Usually, my front porch is a loading dock for boxes of paper, envelopes, and other studio supplies. I wasn't expecting anything this day, and it wasn't my birthday...
Intrigued, I tore into the box to discover a care package from my closest college friends and a hand-written note from each of them on pretty stationery. I'd rather quietly been going through a tough time and was about to walk through a somewhat-painful reminder of several hard months. Without warning and with great care, they remembered. And when they wrote to tell me so, and it undid me.
A personal note says I see you.
I hear you.
I recognize the gift you gave came at a great sacrifice.
You know me so well.
I'm thinking of you.
I'm proud of you.
In this age where our tweets, texts, and emails fade into our memory as soon as they're read, a note has enduring value. In fact, I keep a box of cards and letters in my office and re-read them when I miss my friends or family, when I want to remember how a certain season felt, and what true friendship looks like. They are ebeneezers—preserved moments in time.
I'm a fan of the hand-written note. And I'm also a fan of thoughtfulness not being hindered by preparedness. To help with that, I'm releasing a simple set of cards for all occasions. The Box o Cards set includes 12 cards + envelopes for the various notes you might need to write.
A set includes:
- 3 "Thank You" notes
- 3 "Happy" notes
- 1 "I'm So Sorry" notes
- 1 "Congratulations" notes
- 2 "Hello" notes
- 2 "I Love You" notes
- 12 corresponding envelopes + envelope liners (in 3 patterns)
Check out the listing in my shop, and have what you need to be the sweet voice someone else may need to hear.
