Summer heat has finally hit Chicago, and as a displaced Southerner, you won’t hear me complaining. Spending the majority of 2015 in the cool wet climate of Northern Ireland, I missed out on the change of seasons altogether, only feeling the warmth of the sun a handful of times over the course of a calendar year. With that said, winter is the midwest is no joke either—only recently having loosened its chilly grip on our new environs. So, welcome, glorious summer. You stay as long as you’d like.
With the shift of weather also come some exciting updates for Four Hats. On account of the recent international and cross-country moves, for almost two years now, I’ve been a press-less letterpress printer. I’ve made do, borrowing time on equipment at a co-op studio, and using
I’ll soon be reunited with my beloved Vandercook (with one more harrowing drive across the map…) and I’ve already welcomed a new-to-me Chandler & Price press into the studio. We’ll have to spend some time getting to know each other, but before long, I hope that she’ll be a helpful addition to production.
We’re still in construction phase with the space, so pictures are forthcoming as soon as things are up and running, but progress is happening, people. And that means, more letterpressness and paper goodies are coming soon, too.
