Welcoming the new year
We all set out with high hopes in a new year. Bright ideas, loads of ambitions. I'm no different. A fresh moleskine calendar always begs me to begin anew with vigor. So, alas, a website revamp was in order. 2016, I'm excited to see what fills your pages.
With Four Hat's side-step to the UK and back in 2015, I was forced to re-evaluate and change pace. A couple new addresses meant that I was press-less for over a year. Though I was without the main vehicle for my art for that time, I was still able to connect with wildly talented local creatives in Northern Ireland, where I resided. During my time there, I contributed design and hand-lettering for several beyond-beautiful events and weddings.
Life abroad was a somewhat painful separation for many reasons. But, with the perspective a little distance has now given, I also know it to have been right and good, as well. As an artist or creative, it's really easy to wrap your self up in your work, to become known around town by your craft. It's nice to have your name and "success" provide some social footing. Before my departure from the South, I was so solidly planted in this land of false security.
It only took a cross-pond move and then a stateside return to one of the country's largest cities for me to notice what sinking sand I had built my little business on.
I'm home (to America), but the world turned while I was gone. The wedding industry grew and changed. So did I! Our address is now Chicago, and I'm still navigating my place here, trying to find a place among a community of creatives. I'm thankful to have now have access to a printing facility with tentative plans for my own forthcoming studio. I'm taking it one day at a time, one careful step at a time, hoping and praying all the way.
